With deep sorrow, broken hearts and disbelief, we mourn the tragic and sudden loss of Leo Honigwachs, who passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016. He was a devoted husband, best friend and soul mate to Vera for 57 years, a loving, patient father who gave and gave of his heart and his time to his four daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda Honigwachs, Judy and Rami Shanani, Debbie Honigwachs and Vicky and Jimmy Shizgal. He was a cherished grandfather who was a wonderful teacher to his seven grandkids, as well as a friend and confidante. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren Eitan, Daniel, Yonatan and David Shanani, and Josh, Adam, Sarah Shizgal and her fiancé, David Herman. He had a close relationship to his younger brother Yehoshua and his older brother Jack (Yankel) z"l who predeceased him by two weeks. He was loved by his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law and all his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews, who admired and adored their 'Uncle Leo'. Leo was predeceased by his sisters, Pearl and Edith and mother Tobe Miriam who perished in the Holocaust and by his father Yosef Honigwachs. Born in 1931 in pre-war Czechoslovakia, he survived through wit, luck and bravery together with his brother. He witnessed but escaped the liquidation and destruction of the Jews of his city and was reunited later with his father. He moved to Canada in 1948 and built a new life through hard work and determination, never allowing his past to determine his future. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean-Talon St. W., on Thursday, August 18 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at Tifereth Beth David Jerusalem Congregation Cemetery, Tifereth Jerusalem Section, de la Savane.
