Paul Fisher Obituary

Paul Fisher, adored son, brother, father, friend and companion, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, as he was tending the garden at his home in Hatfield, Massachusetts . He was 46 years young, and is survived by his life partner, Ruby Rufo; children Kaiulani, Julian, and Kalea; brothers Aaron, James, and Jack; sister Samantha; and father David.

Born on October 10, 1972 in San Antonio, Texas, Paul was the firstborn son of David and Lynda (deceased) Fisher, and was a gentle, sweet, thoughtful, loving and caring child, whose nature would remain the same throughout adulthood.

Paul's early life, and that of his brothers, was often interrupted by moving from place to place. But despite this, and perhaps because of it, Paul made deep and lasting relationships throughout his life, and formed a lifelong bond of love with his brothers Aaron and James.

Having worked his way up from Texas to Connecticut through the years, Paul graduated from Staples High School in Westport, CT, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He became part of a wide and meaningful community in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts, and contributed to the culture and spirit around him, serving in local government in Hatfield MA, and owning and operating One Way Screen Printing in Hadley, MA.

A loving father, and a big kid himself, Paul never missed an opportunity to show his kids how to experience life and have fun, encouraging them to follow their passions; stoking their curiosity in new things; showering them with love and hugs; and finding small ways everyday to teach integrity, acceptance, and compassion.

Paul's life should be celebrated as one well lived; as one full of love, and one fully loved. He will leave an un-fillable hole in many lives, but would want us to remember him with Love, Light, and Aloha.

The celebration of Paul's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 14, at the North Hadley Congregational Church, 243 River Drive, Hadley, MA., and will continue at 22 Maple Street, Hatfield, MA. in the "Heart Field".

Donations are being accepted to support the children's education through a GoFundMe campaign: https://www.gofundme.com/rupakaijuka

Paul was my first crush when I was very young on Philadelphia's Main Line. The area I grew up in has a lot of uptight people, so he was a breath of fresh air.
Very cool to talk to. We'd share convos about reincarnation, I dimly recall him saying one of his litte brother's imagined/claimed he had been in WW2! Trippy.
Alas, Paul had a crush on an older girl, so I really pined for him and he was my unrequited (puppy) love. He was so fun and friendly, just lovely. So stunned to see he passed young. Only the good die young. But he was a very old soul so it almost makes sense that he left early from the dance.

I'd like to say I knew Paul well. Unfortunately, he was a friend of a friend who accepted me like family. By the second time I visited him and Ruby I felt like I was. Over the years, each time our paths crossed or I was at One Way, he was quick to smile and honestly good natured. A great loss to everyone he might have met as well as those who knew him even a little, and my deepest sympathy and best wishes to those who knew him better.

Dearest Paul,
Being part of your family' was a joy. Your big heart, generosity and wisdom will never be forgotten, though I know I will still get to experience You, through those precious bugs' you spawned. I will continue to love them and give them the hugs, wisdom and comfort I have been able to provide, and add in an extra measure for what I would have given to you. I hope you are able to feel the outpouring of love that everyone has sent out to you.
I want to thank you for the special bit of wisdom you continuously shared with me, that always left me uplifted. I love you and will miss you.
Please keep shining down your light of optimism down on all you loved while you explore and enjoy this next adventure...
-Dawn

I only worked with Paul briefly at One Way, and he was a wonderful, kind, patient, friendly and warm person. Before this summer, I'd only communicated with him via email and phone. I was SO glad to meet him face to face this summer, and loved using them to print shirts for me. I'm so heartbroken to hear this news. Much love to his family.

Paul was a customer where I work and we have chatted and laughed over the many years I knew him. I waited on him a few days before he passed and he talked about his family that he adored and we talked about our love of gardens. As he left, the last thing he said to me was happy gardening.
My condolences to the entire family he left behind. May his smile live in your hearts always.

Oh Ruby, we're so sorry!
Angie and I are in Milwaukee preparing for her mother's funeral tomorrow and were completely shocked by Zac's email!
Both you and Paul were so welcoming, supportive, and nurturing to us when we moved to Hatfield and started the school. The last time I dropped off the aprons it was as usual, just stopping by a friend's place to catch up with Paul and the gang - just what a real caring community should be.
We send all our love to your entire family and regret that we cannot be there to share a hug in person.

I was on vacation while finding out about Paul...it broke my heart. We were childhood friends from Pgh Pa- Montclair Neighborhood kids. I just got home today and looked at photos from when we were little and it made me so upset.
Fly high my friend. wish it was just a bad dream...

Paul was my friend in high school. We've lost touch but I remember our friendship so fondly. He was indeed the sweetest, funniest, kindest. I'm so deeply sorry.

Such a fine and gentle soul. Paul just exuded calm and gentle smiles wherever he was. Our hearts go out to his beautiful loving family. As well to his extended family which goes far and wide all over the world. He made such a positive difference in this life in such a short time. Proud to know you Paul.
