NORTHAMPTON - Dorothy A. Nagle passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, on the memory unit at Linda Manor. She was 93 years old.
She lived her life with quiet dignity and unending kindness. She was generous with her smiles, her encouragement and her forgiveness. She will be deeply missed by her family, her friends and caregivers at Linda manor.
She was raised with her treasured brother, Robert Sullivan, by their beloved grandmother, Katherine Sullivan, on Walnut Street in Northampton. She was valedictorian for the class of 1940 at Saint Michael's High School. She attended Smith College as part of the Class of 1944. She worked at Smith College, School of Social work for over 40 years. She retired as Assistant to the Dean.
She was a devoted parishioner at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Northampton and served as eucharistic minister for many years. For 25 years she and her daughter shared a summer home in Kennebunk, Maine. She loved the beach and spent many hours perfecting her tan. She was also a devoted fan of her grandchildren's events. She was always the loudest cheerleader when her grandchildren were playing sports. Her other passion was shopping for gifts for other people.
She leaves her four devoted children: William P. Nagle Jr. (Mary Jo), Robert C. Nagle (Melissa), Judith A. Hogan (William) and Jane P. Nagle (Ed Shaughnessy); eight beloved grandchildren: Matthew Hogan, Kevin Hogan, Sarah Bisaillon-Scoble (Peter Scoble), Kerry-Jo Nagle (George LaMontague), Keily Nagle (Kat Falherty), Kasey Nagle (Laura Sultana), Kelsey Nagle (James Hasson) and Christopher Nagle; two loving step grandchildren: Shannon Greenwood and Mark Shaughnessy. She also leaves four joyful great grandchildren: Zachary, Will, Elizabeth and Grace Scoble.
