Leroy "Roy" Lockhart

  • "My life is so much richer for the times I spent with you..."
  • "We will always remember shared times. Rest in peace. ..."

Leroy "Roy" Lockhart
March 9, 1947 - July 20, 2018
On March 9, 1947 Roy Lockhart was born, the only child of George W. and Doris Lockhart of Whitewater, Colorado. Roy spent his younger days as any rancher's son would do, hunting, fishing, and working on the ranch. Roy graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1965, lettering in both track and football. The livestock heritage ran deep in the Lockhart Legacy and Roy followed in their footsteps.
In 1969, Roy earned a degree in Business Administration from Western State College and began a career training horses and competing in rodeos. Training horses consisted of breaking colts, finishing rope horses, cutting and reining. His profession took Roy to many different states including Texas, Oklahoma, California, Arizona, New Mexico and back to Colorado.
Returning to the Grand Valley in 2002, Roy and Doug Smith formed BarV Reality, selling farms and ranches throughout Western Colorado and Utah. Roy valued his friends, cherished his family history and family heirlooms. Roy had thousands of stories, most were not second hand, but lived by him. Through the latter years, Roy enjoyed fly fishing, roping with lifelong friends and teaching young cowboys horsemanship.
A celebration of Roy's life will be held at Jack and Janelle Beach's home located at 1236 13 1/2 Road in Loma, Colorado on September 8th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m.
