EDWARDSVILLE — Agnes "Aggie" R. Svehla, age 74, of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Edwardsville.
Aggie bravely fought a 15 month battle of ovarian cancer. She was born June 29, 1946, in Breese, the daughter of the late William C. & Bertha E. (Hilmes) Thole. Aggie married David Svehla on June 16, 1973, in St. Rose. Besides her husband of 47 years, Aggie is survived by two sons, Brian M. Svehla and wife Therese, of Edwardsville, and two grandsons, David A. & Daniel J. Knoblauch; and Travis J. Svehla, of Troy, IL with two granddaughters, Sydney & Samantha Svehla; four brothers, Richard G. Thole & wife Leona, of St. Rose, Paul H. Thole & wife Rita, of St. Rose, Thomas V. Thole & wife Rita, of St. Rose, and Michael S. Thole & wife Marilyn, of Breese; four sisters, Janet M. Wiegman & husband Leonard, of Carlye, Judy A. Anderson & husband Wayne, of Maryland Heights, Elizabeth A. Eilers, of St. Rose, and Jeralyn M. Becker & husband Ricky, of St. Rose, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Aggie was preceded in death by her brother in law, Richard Eilers, and a niece, Amy Vogt.
Aggie loved her flowers and gardening. She worked for several years in the greenhouse at Market Basket in Edwardsville. She also enjoyed tole painting as a stress relief when raising her two boys and country line dancing for 26 years with her husband David where they made many wonderful friends. Aggie was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Edwardsville. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Reverend Robert J. Jallas officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. The family request memorials to St. Jude's, Shriners Children's Hospital, or Vitas Hospice.
