Bertha LaRue Obituary

SAN ANGELO Bertha Mae "Sis" LaRue, 90, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in San Angelo. The visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home with the graveside service following at 11:30 a.m. in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Bertha was born on Sept. 16, 1922, in Byars, Okla., to L.P. and Lula Hall Taylor. She married Arthur Allen "Jack" LaRue on Jan. 9, 1943, in Post, Texas, and they shared 62 beautiful years together before he preceded her in death in 2005. Bertha was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to her family. She believed in hard work and while raising her family she assisted her husband in building houses. There was virtually no job too big or too small that she could not handle. She was also always ready to give advice to everyone she knew like "Dear Abby" whom she regarded with great admiration. Bertha also loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family, quilting in her spare time and spending time in her garden. She will dearly be missed but her memory will live on in our hearts forever! Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Jack LaRue; her son-in-law, Bobby Wilson; three sisters; and five brothers. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Linda Wilson of San Angelo; her granddaughters, Dena Thompson and her husband, Tyler, of New Braunfels and Kerry Wilson of San Angelo; her daughter-in law, Becky Larue of Oklahoma; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and one very special niece, Virginia "Gina" Keller and her husband, Larry, of Cleburne. She is also survived by Robin who she endeared as though she were her own granddaughter. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Derry Edwards, Dickie Edwards, Tyler Thompson, Kelly Wilson and Dan Daniels. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Montoya and all of the many private caregivers who went above and beyond taking care of "Mrs. Bertha." Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Family and friends may sign an online register book at johnsons-funeralhome.com.
