Shane Baumann Obituary

Shane Christopher Baumann

San Angelo

Shane Christopher Baumann, 36, of San Angelo, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016.

He was born to Donald Joseph and Marlys Ann (Berglund) Baumann on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 1979 in Mandan, North Dakota. Shane joined the long list of family members to serve in the military and enlisted in the United States Army as a Military Intelligence Korean Linquist. Upon completion of Advanced Individual Training, Shane was stationed in Korea and Fort Campbell, and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon completing his enlistment, Shane served as a Military Intelligence Signals Intelligence Analyst Instructor at Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, Texas.

After ten years as an instructor, Shane touched over 3,000 students who have expressed their gratitude for his dedication and high standards. He was currently working on his third bachelors degree, having already earned one masters and two bachelors degrees. To say that Shane was intelligent and motivated does not serve him justice.

He married Jinhee Park on Feb. 24, 2007 in Korea. Shane was family oriented in every sense of the phrase, and his wife and sons were his world. Nothing mattered more to him than his family. Shane was not just a protector for his family, but was the protective shield for those he loved. He was an active father and enjoyed being a "big kid" himself, often playing hide-and-seek with his sons and kids of family and friends. He was a sports-fan, especially of the Houston Texans, and enjoyed playing racquetball and traveling. Shane loved to laugh and tried to always bring laughter to any situation. He has been described as thoughtful, respectful, loving, ethical and inspirational. Shane was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He touched and forever changed countless people during his lifetime and will be missed greatly. He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife and love of his life, Jinhee Park Baumann; sons, Logan and Luke Baumann; mother, Marlys Baumann; siblings and their spouses, Stephanie Richard (Kelly), Sheryl Brown (Stan), Scott Baumann, Stacey Baumann (Heather), Sandy Ackerman (Rob), and Sheila Harmeyer (David); 13 nieces and nephews and one more on the way; two great nieces; father and mother-in law, Kwangho Park and Kyungae Kim; brother-in-law, Doyoung Park; and a number of other relatives and friends.

A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, with visitation to follow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church. Graveside service will be held at 1:45 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Scott Baumann, Stacey Baumann, Stan Brown and David Harmeyer will serve as pallbearers. Doyoung Park, Kelly Richard, Rob Ackerman and Saul Lucatero will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and photos as well as sign the online guestbook at johnsons-funeralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, Texas.

I worked with Shane at GAFB. He popped into my mind the other day while thinking about my time there as an instructor and all the great people I worked with. Shane was definitely one of them. It's been over 6 years since he passed away, but that doesn't mean he's gone. Just wanted to come here and say that he's not been forgotten. Much love to his family.

My Name is Al Martinez and Shane and I used to play racquetball on Goodfellow. He really enjoyed racquetball and we would contact each other when we were available to play to reserve the racquetball court. As a left-handed player, he surprised me with a few shots I hadn't expected and overall, my game improved as a result. I wish we could have continued to play and enjoy the game of racquetball. My condolences to his wife and children, and his family. RIP my friend..

Shane was a good friend! We met as instructors in West Texas. We became fast friends, and even convinced him to buy a house 8 houses down from me. We hung out, played games, he totally supported my music. In fact the best picture I have of him is him proudly wearing my band shirt! He was a good man, a good husband, and a great father! I have only the best memories of Shane! I am so truly sad to hear that my friend Shane is gone. I am thankful to have crossed paths in this journey of life and having met Shane and been a part of his life! My condolences to Jinhee and the boys! If Lindsey and I can do anything, please reach out to us.

My favorite individual memory of Shane was playing poker with him in the Boom Boom Room, when he talked our tempers down and saved a fun night. Over the course of the short time I worked with him (2007 and 2008) I always loved talking with him. Politics, sports, religion, whatever. He was a very well spoken man.

My daughters and I will pray for him and his family tonight.

November 21, 2016

I had the pleasure of serving with Shane Baumann most of my enlistment. We went through challenging military academies together and he was a good friend. I'm deeply saddened and send my condolences to his wife, boys, and entire family. I know this is hard times and please know that God is holding Shane in his hand for something greater than we can understand.

What I like most about Shane was his sense of humor his unique, subtle wit. He was sharp and could easily spot idiosyncrasies. We could laugh at our midwestern culture while experiencing the U.S. & Korea. Our favorite laugh was hearing sing I'm still loving you (bc of how he pronounced it with his accent). Shane was open-minded and fun.

At DLI, he liked moonlight energy, rollerblading, roller hockey, and chilling out by driving Asilomar. He liked music with questions and feeling, esp Matchbox 20 & Kid Rock.

In Korea, he liked partying and adventure.

Shane was friendly. And, always a good friend. Everybody liked him. Period. He was easy to get along with. Intelligent. Competent. Generous. Strong. Funny.

God Bless you, Armykunin. Peace.
