Obituary

Per Heggedal, the son of Rasmina (Nore) and Jakob Heggedal was born on June 20, 1921 in Bryggja, Nordfjord, Norway.
He was raised and attended school there and later attended trade school for carpentry. On June 22, 1948 he and Marta Isane were united in marriage in Davik, Norway. They worked as a commercial fisherman and a seamstress. They immigrated to the U.S. and lived in the Badger area for a short while and moved to Rapid City, SD where Per worked as a carpenter. In 1951 they purchased a farm in Nereson Township and moved to the farm in 1952. They later moved back to Rapid City in 1958, and lived there until the fall of 1966 when they moved back to Badger, purchasing the neighboring farm. They lived in Badger until his death on June 23, 2004. He was 83 years old. They visited Norway many times throughout the years. He had many hobbies, including watching football, basketball, and hockey on TV. He played cards, and enjoyed visiting and laughing with friends on his trip to town for a Mountain Dew at the gas station. He was known for his sense of humor, his jokes, and teasing. He also enjoyed cutting wood, stacking it perfectly, mowing the grass, and moving snow with the front end loader. He enjoyed politics, reading the news, and was very interested in world events. Per is survived by his wife Marta, children Jon (Lucille) of Badger, Sonia Heggedal of Mahnomen, Arne (Sharon) of Badger, Randi (John) Gaukerud of Badger, Martin (Mona) of Fargo and Linda Heggedal-Hart of Lichfield, MN; Ten grandchildren, Erik, Lyndsay, Jakob, Anna, Sara, Carl, Kristina, Laurie, Erika, and Evan; three great-grandchildren Dylan Per, Ella, and Emma; two sisters, Ragnild and Jafrid of Bryggja, Norway. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jostein, Reider, Sverre, and three sisters Anna, Marta, and Klara. Funeral Services for Per Heggedal will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Badger. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Helgeson Funeral Chapel in Roseau, and one hour prior to services at the church. Devotional services will be at 7:00 p.m., Friday at Helgeson's.
