Swider, Donald Mr. Donald Gene Swider of Rockford, Michigan, age 84, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 3, 2020. He was born to Edward and Helen (Widlitzki) Swider on December 31, 1935, in Grand Rapids, MI. Don was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He loved his job as a mechanical engineer, problem solving, and overcoming design challenges. Don also enjoyed working with his hands, riding his motorcycle and spending time outdoors. The most important thing to Don was taking care of his family, and that is what he did. Don is survived by his second wife, Sandra Swider (nee Adamson); daughter, Shirley (David) Burnett; son, Rob (Deb) Swider; adored grandchildren, Tony, Alex, Sophie, Emily, Andrew, and Allison; brother, Bob Swider, and his nephews. Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Swider (nee Blakeslee); and both parents, Edward and Helen. The family would like to thank the staff at Spectrum Health Blodgett and Spectrum Health Hospice for their care and compassion towards Don and his family. There will be a time of visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street, Rockford, MI 49341. Please wear a mask. Military honors and a graveside service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Blythefield Memory Gardens, 6200 Brewer Ave NE, Belmont, MI 49306. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy may make a memorial contribution to the Kent County Veteran's Honor Guard, 2101 Ontario Avenue NE Grand Rapids, MI 49505 or Alzheimer's Association – Greater Michigan Chapter, West Michigan Office, 4081 Cascade Rd SE Suite 400, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
