Dion, Gary P. "Bo" Kentwood, MI Our beloved husband, father, and brother, Gary Paul Dion "Bo", said "enough" the evening of January 19, 2021 after waging an epic battle against the complications of the coronavirus. Bo entered this world on September 16, 1956, to Willard and Mary Dion. Raised in a boisterous family with six siblings, he learned the value of hard work and dedication that would serve him throughout his life. After graduating from Western Michigan University in 1979, Bo perfected his craft of salesmanship first with the Kellogg Company, then Johnson and Johnson/Cordis, and lastly with Cardinal Health, selling medical devices. Bo had retired and was so looking forward to the rewards of that time of life with his one and only love, Nancy Davey ("Nannycakes" as Bo called her), with whom he formed a team when they married in 1981. Bradley (Lynsey) and Christopher completed their family. Bo devoted himself to all of them. supporting them in every endeavor, giving them a solid faith foundation, and being a role model of determination and commitment. Bo will be greatly missed by them and by his siblings, who so mourn the loss of their brother, Willard (Debbie), Mary Kay "Bola" (Terry), Jim "Ip" (Sue), Denise "NeeNee" (Tom), Dave (Lesa), Joni (Rob); in-laws who considered him their brother, Bill (Cindy) Davey, and Doug (Karen) Davey, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and extended families. Bo was involved in various volunteer activities, most notably his work with the Mary Free Bed Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp. He carved out time each summer to not only support his son, Brad, but to enable other young girls and boys living with physical disabilities to have a chance to learn to play a sport and to just have fun; discovering that they, too, can accomplish anything they are willing to try. He, Brad, Lynsey, and Chris have continued volunteering yearly to support this wonderful program. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. All covid safety precautions will be required. Bo was a faithful member of Cornerstone Church, and that is where his immediate family will give him permission to join his parents in Heaven, and wait for us. He lived an exemplary life; everyone who met Bo loved his engaging personality, his disarming smile, his wit and humor, and his ability to fill a room with energy. You are invited to join the livestream of this memorial service on January 30, at 2:00 pm by visiting Cornerstone Church's You Tube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVH5sXZLl-N8jzgFKKbkEjQ or find Cornerstone Church 84th St. Campus on youtube.com. We are heartbroken, but we will continue on as he would wish. Bo loved a good party! We plan to have one to celebrate his memory at a time when we can safely mingle and share that love of life he demonstrated so exuberantly. If you would like to honor Bo's memory with a donation, please consider the Mary Free Bed Foundation at www.maryfreebed.com/foundation: click DONATE NOW to be directed to the Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports; there you will find a drop-down menu to choose the Jr. Wheelchair Sports Camp. The family thanks the angels at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital who worked valiantly and fearlessly to try to help Bo overcome the virus's attack, and Bo's nephew, Matt Davey MD, who lovingly guided Nancy and his cousins in understanding the actions taken. You can also thank them, both by staying safe and by getting your vaccines as soon as possible. "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter..." (J Magee)

Rest in peace Bo. You were a role model for many ,myself included. A great father, husband, friend, sibling, and best of all, cousin in law. That service was a perfect tribute to a wonderful man. We are still in disbelief that you are gone. Brad you have never ceased to amaze me, what a great eulogy. We are keeping you all in our prayers. May the effect on all those that Bo's life touched be of some comfort to help through this horrible tragedy. With love and sadness, Jim Miles and family

Monica and I got to know Bo through our Brother-in-law Dave and the rest of the Dion’s . Bo was a reflection of such a wonderful, fun loving, living life to the fullest family. I can honestly say that the times we were around Bo I think I can agree, his smile was contagious and you knew he enjoyed life to the fullest. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you and to you Dave, your eulogy honoring your brother was absolutely beautiful and Brad did a wonderful tribute too his dad as well. To you Dave,) we are proud to have you as a brother-in-law . May God bless all of you and provide you with the comfort that his spirit lives on.

Please accept my sincerest condolences Nancy, Brad & Chris. Bo trained me at Cordis in 1989 and we remained friends ever since. At National meetings we always gathered for early breakfast. It was a tradition which allowed the “old timers” to visit and enjoy each other’s company. Over 30 years I looked forward to our conversations. Whether it was vacationing in Napa or golfing in Florida, Bo enjoyed retirement. He was a great person who was positive, caring and genuine to all who knew him. I will always have fond memories of Bo and truly cherished our friendship.

We are stunned to read of Bo’s death. When the four of us had dinner together last year, it had been years since we’d been together. You were both the picture of health. One of my favorite memories of Bo was at a Christmas party white elephant gift exchange. The gift from Bo was a box of Russell Stover chocolates. The recipient discovered on her way home that there was a catch... there was a bite missing from every piece! Always fun to be around, whether at church, the gym or gathering with a group. Our sincerest sympathy in the loss of a charming and wonderful man

I was both shocked and saddened to see Bo's obituary in the newspaper today. I have known both Bo and Chris for many years as fellow MAC and MVP members. Since all of us were Saturday morning regulars at the MAC, we met and talked often. Bo had a great sense of humor and had an unfailingly positive attitude. When the MAC closed we still met many times when Bo (and often Chris) would visit the MVP on Burton Street. (The downtown MVP was Bo's "home" club.) Most recently we talked in late December or early January and shared plans we each had for family vacations later this year. I will certainly miss seeing Bo's smile and sharing conversations with him, even though they were relatively brief. Chris, I am so sorry for your loss. I really liked the relationship that the two of you had. It seemed to be more than simply a father/son relationship. He will certainly be missed. The world will not be the same without him in it.

Bo trained me as a sales rep for Cordis way back in the late 80's and we remained close colleagues for several years afterwards. He was honest, fun to be around, principled, hard working and a phenomenal sales representative that was respected by all physicians who worked with him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Dion family as his smile and presence will be missed. Sam Liang

Bo was a dear friend, neighbor, and “shirt-tail” relative on my wife’s side.

Some of my favorite memories with Bo include Zone Workouts at MVP, Saturday AM Bicycle Rides (he attacked the hills - while I just rode them), 4th of July Fireworks, Grilling Suggestions from the Master, and all the Funny Stories (amazing memory) from the past. We don’t always remember the days, we remember the “moments” and Bo certainly had a lot of them. We will greatly miss you!

Bo was the nicest guy you would ever want to meet. He was my neighbor. I loved Bo, he helped me so much after I lost my husband Bob unexpectedly four years ago. He and Bob had a great relationship and loved to tell stories out in the driveway. I think Bo wanted to make sure I was taken care of. I know that Bob welcomed him up in Heaven and are continuing their wild stories without skipping a beat. Bo, I will help with Nancy, Brad, Chris and Lindsey. You will live on in them forever.
