Byron "Barney" Posey

Byron Duane "Barney" Posey, 78, of Great Falls, died of Alzheimer's disease Tuesday, Oct. 9, at his home.

A memorial celebrating his life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Croxford Funeral Home and Crematory.

Barney was born in Bismarck, N.D., on Nov. 26, 1933, to Edward and Florence (Sloan) Posey. He grew up and attended school in Glenfield, N.D. After leaving school to work on railroad construction, he enlisted in the Army and was assigned to a tour of duty in Korea.

In 1956, he married Janice Larson. They moved to Montana in 1962. He worked as an auto mechanic, and he owned and operated Barney's Alignment. He also worked as a salesman for Haggarty Motors, retiring in 2002.

Barney was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast always looking forward to hunting season, and he was an accomplished horseman. He enjoyed playing softball, tennis and o-mok-see, where he held two state records. His greatest delight was camping and fishing with his children and grandchildren.

Barney is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons, Blake (Tina) and Mitchell (Jacque) of Great Falls; daughter Debbie of Long Beach, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Chase and Colter.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
