Gladys Louise Chandler

BIG SANDY Gladys Louise Chandler, 94, died of natural causes Saturday, Dec. 1, at Big Sandy Medical Center.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Friday at Big Sandy Methodist Church, with interment at the Fort Benton Cemetery in the spring. Benton Funeral Home handled arrangements.

She was the eleventh of fourteen children. She worked at various clerical jobs. She married Clifford Chandler on Feb. 4, 1940, in Bozeman. They moved to a farm near Big Sandy in 1950, where they raised two daughters. She taught piano for many years. She was also a member of Bear Paw Chapter #100 of Eastern Star.

They retired and moved to Loma in 1981, where she kept busy gardening, making quilts, sewing, canning and she helped build the Little Rockies Christian Camp.

She was active with the First Christian Church in Fort Benton, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Chandler; as well as her parents and twelve siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth McElwee; her daughters, Linda (Glenn) Ophus and Lois (Ken) Gay, both of Big Sandy; four grandchildren, Corinna Bahnmiller of Billings, Lianna (Conrad) Heimbigner of Big Sandy, Dr. Trevor (Christina) Stamper of Batavia, Ohio, and Heather Stamper of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six great-grandchildren, Jackie and Sean Bahnmiller, Caitlin and Stephanie Stamper, Severin and Walter Heimbigner.
