She was born Marie Louise Nelson on Jan.5, 1929, to Walter and Nora Nelson of Stanford. She was the third of eight children and grew up in the Benchland/Stanford area. In 1946, Louise graduated salutatorian from Stanford High School. After graduation, she worked for the post office before moving to Havre to work as a bookkeeper. She married Gerry Dubois on March 2, 1951, in Stanford. Their early years of marriage were in Windham, where Gerry worked as a rancher. They moved to Power and Great Falls before settling in Sun River, where she worked again as a bookkeeper. They had four children: Terry, Karla, Bruce and Guy. When Gerry passed away in 1962, Louise and the children moved to Stanford to be closer to family.

She married Dewey Arps on Dec. 17, 1963, in Simms. They moved the family to the Sun River Valley, where they lived for years. Son Robert was born in 1965. Louise worked as a waitress in several local cafes. In 1984, Louise and Dewey made the decision to move to Shelby, where they took over ownership of the Sherlock Motel. For years, they ran the day-to-day operations of the motel. In 1995, they retired and moved to Sun Prairie, where they enjoyed gardening, music, time with family, relaxing and helping family and friends. In 2006, Louise moved into a care facility and Dewey joined her a short time later. Dewey passed away in 2007.

Louise will be remembered for her smile, the twinkle in her eye, her love of teasing her grandkids, her gardening and crafting skills, her good cooking and great cinnamon rolls. Whenever a group was around, there was always a game involving young and old. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed visits from family and friends.

She is survived by her five children, Terry (Jack) Hinman of Whitefish, Karla (John) Swart of Great Falls, Bruce (Cindy) Dubois of Kalispell, Guy (Shirley) Dubois of Shelby and Robert (Lori) Arps of Great Falls; grandchildren Chris, Alison, Tina (Dan), Shawn (Sherilynn), Whitney, Jeralee, Dana (TJ), Mandy (Casey), Mykell, Rick; five great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.
