Walter Thompson

Walter Thompson

Walter "Walt" Thompson, 76, of Great Falls, passed away peacefully November 20 at Peace Hospice after a long illness. Walt was born in Bozeman, Montana on January 17, 1937 to Lillie and Homer W. Thompson.

Walt's vocation became that of a long-haul trucker, a job he loved that took him to all of the lower 48 states, Alaska and Canada. In 1984 in Great Falls he met the love of his life, Les Falk, and they married in 1985. For several years, Les and her dog Pooh rode shotgun for Walt, where they enjoyed sharing the sunrise every morning in a different place.

Walt retired in 2002 when he was finally able to focus on some longtime interests that included gourmet cooking, and an endless list of projects and honey-do lists. He used his impressive carpentry skills to expand his new interest in backyard birds, building elaborate houses and feeders that provided constant entertainment. And his culinary talents were displayed every year when he prepared a delicious Christmas dinner for friends and family.

Walt is survived by his wife Les, sons from a previous marriage Duane (Bozeman) and Doug (Virginia), brother Gary Thompson (Kalispell), sister Vera Cutting (Belgrade), and his canine pals Bailey and Chance. He was preceded in death by his daughter Reianne Thompson and his parents. No services are planned at Walt's request.

Les would like to thank the staff at Peace Hospice for their support and the wonderful care they provided to Walt in his final days.
