Ethel Markham Obituary
Ethel M. Markham

Great Falls —Ethel Marie (Huckins) Markham, age 84, was at her home, surrounded by her family, when she went home to be with the Lord and her husband Jeff on November 27, 2013. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2pm at Harvest Springs Community Church. A private interment will follow in Manchester Cemetery. Croxford Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ethel was a wife and mother, firmly believing that her family came first.

She loved bowling. As a result, she began keeping score at Little's Lanes from the late 1960's until she was replaced by an automatic scoring machine in the early 1990's. She loved bowling so much that for 43 years, she was the league secretary of the Tuesday Afternoon Trio League at Little's Lanes.

For the last 24 years, she was a Foster Grandparent Volunteer at Valley View Elementary School mentoring many young children, especially first graders.

She was an avid gardener with "two very green thumbs". She was known to her family as "The Plant Doctor" who had the ability to take sick plants and restore them to health. She could grow anything and everything, including tropical plants in the house.

Ethel loved her Lord and everyone she met, including her extended church family. She was a member of the same church for over 60 years. She was known to everyone as "the sweet lady who always gave hugs".

She is survived by her brothers Herb Huckins (California), Ken Huckins (Washington), Jim Orr (Arizona), John Orr (Washington) and her sisters Mary Finch (Washington) and Esther Orr (Nevada). She is also survived by her four daughters and their husbands: Paul and Carol (Susie) Mickealson (Hardy Creek); Tom and Linda Mitcham (Great Falls); Tim and Cheryl Izbicki (Everett, Washington); Gary and Louisa (Weezy) Smoke (Anchorage, Alaska). She had seven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials to the Foster Grandparent Program at 1801 Benefis Court, Great Falls, MT 59405 or to Missouri River Care and Rehab, 1130 17th Ave S, Great Falls, MT 59405.
