- - Mary Helen Styren, 89, passed away March 11, 2018 at Butterfly Assisted Living in Billings.

Mary was born June 14, 1928 to Leroy and Marie McDunn at Fort Benton MT. She went to schools in Square Butte, Avon, Vaughn and Manchester. She quit school her freshman year and went to work for Kresse's Five & Dime in Great Falls. It was while working there that she met Eugene "Gene" Stryen. They were married on February 27, 1949 in Great Falls. They lived in Brady, Rudyard, Chester and finally moved to Sunburst.

Besides raising 7 children, Mary also worked part time as a waitress/cook at the Tip Top Café in Sunburst and later at Curly Bobs Supper Club in Sweetgrass. In 1969 she made her lifelong dream come true by opening her own restaurant, the Northern Café. She worked at the café until its close in 1978. Mary loved spending time with her grandkids, taking turns having the boys and girls stay a week at time in the summer. In 1993 they moved to Lewistown MT to be closer to family. It was here that she lost the love of her life on June 24, 1996. She resided in Lewistown until moving to Worden MT in 2005 and then to Billings in 2007.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Richard, brothers Henry, Roy and Edward. She is survived by her children, Francis (Susie) Styren, Marie Ryen, Anita (Steve) VanHoy, Robert (Pam) Styren, Margaret (Tommy) Nelson, Diana (Russ) Sobieray, and Cherri (John) Carney, sisters Theresa Maki and Martha Ginther, brothers Gene and Mike McDunn, 17 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at St Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown on June 16, 2018 at 11 am with graveside service immediately following at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
