Alice Josephine Velk


HAVRE - Alice Josephine (Brenden) Velk, 98, who homesteaded north of Havre with her husband, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and decorating, and was involved with the Eagles, Democratic Women, 4-H and Farmers Union, died of a stroke Sunday at her home in Havre.
Her funeral is 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Fifth Avenue Christian Church in Havre, with burial in Highland Cemetery. A lunch will be held at the church after the burial. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home of Havre is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include sons Thomas B. Velk of Great Falls, Richard Velk and Pete Velk of North Havre and Vincent Velk of Havre; daughters Joyce Woodward of Malston, Wash., Betty Hankins of Carter, Iris Velk of Havre, and Audrey Cox of South Chinook; 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, on Jan. 11, 2000; and a daughter, Doris Patrick.
