Dorothy Pierce Obituary

Dorothy O'Leyar Pierce, 78, retired longtime executive secretary for the Montana Air National Guard in Great Falls, died of leukemia Saturday at her home.
Visitation is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday in the Rose Room at Croxford Funeral Home. Her funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, and burial will take place at a later date in Highland Cemetery.
Survivors include sisters, Shirley (James) Roban of Meridian, Idaho, and Rosemary (Kent) Holtz of Great Falls; a brother, Max O'Leyar; 116 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends Pauline Schultz and Maisie Yabui.
Dorothy was born May 18, 1931, in Tracy, Mont., a daughter of Frank Theodore O'Leyar and Anna (Bozik) O'Leyar. She graduated with the Class of 1949 of Centerville High School as valedictorian. She enjoyed sports while in high school, and was a star basketball player on a championship team during her high school years.
She was employed by the Great Falls Tribune from 1948 until 1949, and then by General Motors from 1949 until 1952, when she went to work for the Social Security office, working there until 1966. She worked at Malmstrom Air Force Base from 1966 until 1969, and then her position at Montana Air National Guard from 1969 until 1989.
She and Art Hopkins were married and he preceded her in death in 1967. She then married Herbert Pierce in Idaho in 1976, and he preceded her in death in 1980.
Others who have preceded her in death are sisters: Ann McHenry, Helen Kroboth, Josephine Slaton and Diane Findlay; brothers Frank O'Leyar Jr., George O'Leyar, and Robert O'Leyar, and an infant brother, John O'Leyar.
Dorothy was a board member of Big Sky Apantao Retreat Ministries. She was also a member of the Giant Springs Questers and the Garnet Jewels Red Hats Society. Her local church affiliations had included both Faith Lutheran Church and Central Assembly of God.
Memorials are suggested to Big Sky Apantao Retreat Ministries, and may be left at Croxford Funeral Home.

Dear Rosemary,
I was saddened to hear of Dorothy's passing. I only met her a few times, but I remember well her beautiful presence wherever she was. I still have the lovely picture of her at the High Tea in Cascade and our bus trip to the Convergence. My prayers and sincere sympathy are with you and your family.
