Browning —Gerald Thomas Guardipee, 78, passed away Dec. 6th in Browning.

Born Nov. 22, 1936 in Browning to William Jennings Guardipee & Edith Marie Collins, Jerry grew up on his parent's ranch in the Two Medicine Valley with his 5 brothers and 5 sisters. He attended Big Lake country school, Blackfeet Boarding School and graduated from Flandreau Indian School as the Valedictorian in 1956. Following his graduation he went Northern Montana College for a year. Jerry then went into the Army in 1959 as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne & jumped 22 times. Jerry received his honorable discharge in July 1966. Upon his return to the States he married Shirley Wippert and they had Dale & Lea. He later remarried Dorothy Harwood in 1988.

Jerry retired from the BIA Irrigation after 20 years, then went to Alaska with his wife Dorothy where he was a taxi driver, bus driver and substitute teacher in the Barrow area. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing and had many good stories he shared with anyone willing to listen. He lived next to the Two Medicine River and enjoyed sitting by his dining room window watching the activities in the river.

He was preceded in death by his parents William & Edith; his son Dale Guardipee; brothers Kenton Yoder, William "Bill" Guardipee and David "Chug" Guardipee.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughter Lea Whitford; grandchildren Whitney Whitford, Rabe Whitford, Kobe Whitford, Molly Kennedy, Troy Guardipee, Tristen Guardipee, and Travis Guardipee; his sisters Joy "Skeets" Wagner, and Mary "Susie" Guardipee; brothers Jim (Shirley) Guardipee, Warren (Phyllis) Guardipee, and Leonard (Dixie) Guardipee; step children Brett (Kim) Harwood, Carlene (Tom) McKay, Roxie (Scottie) Augare, Brenda Meineke, Dale Adamson and Jay Adamson; step grandchildren Matthew Harwood, and Rocky Harwood that he helped raise and Kayla Harwood and Crystal Harwood as well a large extended family.

The rosary was held at 7 pm Wednesday in the Old Eagle Shields, with Mass being celebrated at 11 am Thursday in the Little Flower Catholic Church. The burial will follow at Two Medicine where he will be laid to rest with military honors at the family cemetery.
