Joniaux, Wayne C.
Wayne C. Jonianx, age 79, of New Holstein, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in the town of Schleswig in Manitowoc County.
He was born October 25, 1933 in Green Bay to the late John & Leone (Adams) Joniaux.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 in Germany.
On January 16, 1959, he married Agnes Berger.
He graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1952. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1957. Wayne received a Master's degree in guidance from University Wisconsin, Stout in 1965. Mr. Joniaux taught English at Burlington High School from 1959 to 1965. He was the Guidance Director at New Holstein High School from 1965 until his retirement in 1991.
While at New Holstein High School, he was president of the New Holstein Education Association, president of the Fond du Lac Area Counselors' Association and coordinator of the local adult vocational education program. He also directed the district's gifted student and at-risk programs. He also participated in North Central guidance on-site evaluations.
Wayne's retirement activities consisted of membership in the Calumet County Mental Health Association and the American Cancer Society. He also worked closely with March of Dimes activities. He did volunteer work at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse.
He loved sports, reading, traveling and playing tricks on his grandchildren. He had a life-long love affair with the Packers. He was active in his local chuch-St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein. He served as congregational president, church council member, greeter and Sunday School teacher. Wayne was a member of the New Holstein American Legion Post 124.
Survivors include his two sons, Darren (Lynn) Joniaux of Kiel and Eric Joniaux of New Holstein; three grandchildren, Brad, Trevor and Samantha; and one sister, Mrs. Cheryl (Larry) Pleau of Green Bay. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes and one sister, Marilyn Burkart.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 22, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ 2111 Church Street New Holstein with the Rev. James Werner officiating. Burial will be in the Eaton Union Cemetery in the Town of Eaton.
Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. in New Holstein on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 4-8:00 PM and at St. John United Church of Christ on Friday morning March 22 from 9:30-10:30 AM.
