Niles Conway Ernst, 83, Ashwaubenon, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, January 31, 2013. He was born December 31, 1929, to Carl W. and Marguerite (Cormier) Ernst.

Niles graduated from Green Bay West High School with the class of 1947. From 1951 to 1953 he served our country in the Korean War. In 1954 Niles married Marilyn Jane Mott and they raised five children on the west side of Green Bay.

After a short employment in the paper industry, he became a postal carrier for 39 plus years in Green Bay and RR3 Denmark, also during which he held part time jobs at night, tending bar at Devroy's Bowling Lanes and loading and unloading ships at the Leichts docks.

Niles always worked hard to support his family, believing in physical conditioning to support his responsibilities and recreation. He enjoyed exercising, bicycle riding, bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, and watching Packers and Brewers games. He bowled games of 299 and 297 during his many years of bowling on Monday and Wednesday at Devroys. He always enjoyed traveling and many times loaded the family in a car and set off cross-country.

Niles is survived by five children, Greg, Barb Muehlethaler, Matt (Teresa), Jim, Jeff; two grandchildren, Carly and Adam; one great-grandchild, Gabriel; two sisters, Virginia Kuttruff and Norma Ernst, both of New Orleans, LA; one brother, Lawrence (Joan) Ernst, Leakey TX; Marilyn (Mott) Ernst; a sister-in-law, Rita Ernst; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Marguerite; two brothers, Herbert (Florence) and Leonard (Rita); a brother-in-law, Jack Kuttruff; and an infant son, Joseph.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. A Parish Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Friends may also call at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with Rev John Harper officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery. To send online condolences, please go to
