Walter Markham Obituary
Walter J. Markham, 96, Green Bay, formerly of Iron Mountain, MI, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was born in Atlantic Mine, MI, on September 8, 1920, the second of seven children, to the late Walter and Bertha (Collins) Markham. On December 19, 1942, in Hancock, MI, he married Gloria Grosnick. They were blessed with four beloved daughters. Walter joined the United States Army Air Corps as a flight instructor during WWII. After his time in the military, he entered the boat building industry in Oconto, WI. In 1963, he and a partner purchased Carver Boat in Pulaski, WI, retiring in 1986. On January 21, 1980, Walter married Mary Jane "Toots" Battistella in Iron Mountain, where they resided.
Survivors include his four daughters, Janet Augustine, West Bend, Mary (Charles Hagen) Young, Green Bay, Dorothy (Gary) Temple, De Pere, and Sandra (Toby Vandenack) Markham, Green Bay; six grandchildren, Lynn Woo, Sarah Young, Katie Young, Laurie Young, David Temple, and Catherine Smith; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice and Nell.
Walter is further survived by his wife, Mary Jane "Toots" Markham; two step-children, Jean (Ray) Meyers, MI and FL, and Beverly (Jack) Olson, Iron Mountain; step-grandchildren, Nick Stroud, Scott Stroud, Josh Olson, and Tracy Olson; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles, Harold, Barbara, and Bob; and one step-grandchild, Chad Stroud.
Private family services were held. Burial will take place in Crystal Falls, MI. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.prokowall.com. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to Bay Cliff Health Camp, N4175 County Road KCA, P.O. Box 310, Big Bay, MI, 49808.

We just happened on to the news of Wally passing. Please accept our deepest sympathy. He lined up a nice used Cruisers, Inc for our family when I was a teen and I have always owned at least one boat ever since. He was surely my favorite uncle.
