David S. Patz, 70, De Pere, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital. David was born in Green Bay on January 3, 1943, to Dorothea (Shepard) Patz and Vernon Gustave Patz.

Dave was a resident of Green Bay for most of his life. He graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1961, where he was the salutatorian of his class. He was a member of the debate team and enjoyed acting in the school plays. During the summer, David played baseball in the Babe Ruth league. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Dave attended Carlton College in Northfield, MN. After graduation, he joined the Peace Corps where he was assigned to serve in Malaysia. He attended graduate school at New York University.

Dave battled psychological illness for the majority of his adult life. With the help of his health professionals, the support of his family, and the care from the people at Angels on Arcadian Assisted Living, he was able to overcome the disease in his senior years enjoying a happy productive period in his life. Throughout Dave's life he enjoyed music, photography, reading, and politics.

Dave believed in the importance of social issues. He worked for a time at the Brown County Commission on Aging. Dave was active in the Democratic Party volunteering his time to help with recent elections. He enjoyed attending Bridge Point Church. His faith was renewed by his church family in his last years. As a young man, he was active in the Baptist Youth Fellowship at First Baptist Church, the predecessor to Bridge Point Church.

David is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Bonnie) Epping, New Hampshire and their sons Ryan (Jeannie), San Francisco, CA; and Ben (Sara) Fryeburg, Maine; and Alan (Barbara) Patz, Green Bay; and their daughters, Alison, Arlington, VA; Kathryn, Chicago, IL; and Jacqueline, a student at the University of Notre Dame. To his nieces and nephews, he was lovingly known as "Uncle Dave". He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held at Bridge Point Church, 2421 West Point Road on Tuesday, March 26. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., with the Memorial Service to follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
