Matuszewski, Dorothy M.

Dorothy M. Matuszewski, age 98, Laona, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the NuRoc Community Healthcare Center, Blackwell. She was born in Antigo, WI on June 2, 1914 the daughter of Charles and Eva (Adget) Tuma.

On November 22, 1941, Dorothy married Victor Matuszewski in Antigo, WI; he preceded her in death on March 7, 1981. They moved from Antigo to a farm in Laona in December of 1955. Dorothy and Victor ran the family farm for 26 years and she made sure that all was in order. Along with helping on the farm, she held various jobs at Alderton's Potato and Dairy Farm, Connors Mill, Frank's Supermarket and B & M Mini Mart.

After Victor's death in 1981, Dorothy became an avid golfer, enjoyed cross country skiing, biking and enjoyed traveling with family and friends; especially the many trips to Las Vegas. She had many other hobbies such as shopping, eating out, Packer & Badger Fan, playing the Harmonica and playing cards with her grandchildren; especially Concentration. Dorothy enjoyed and rarely missed any of her grandchildren's sporting events. She was a mentor to all her family. Along with their 9 children, Dorothy and Victor had 5 foster children and Dorothy had her best canine companion, Teddy. Dorothy was a lifelong member of St. Leonard Catholic Church, Laona, member of the Christian Mothers, Bell Choir and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by daughters, Shirley (Dennis) Penasa, De Pere, Betty (Frank) Miles, Wausaukee, Joan (Rex) Kadlec, Appleton, Mary (Robert) Fatla, Laona and Jane (Michael) Egan, West Allis, sons, John (Gloria) Matuszewski, Laona, Charles (Wendy) Matuszewski, Laona, James (Sarah) Matuszewski, Laona and Victor (Karen) Matuszewski, Jr., Waterford, 33 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and one on the way, 3 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way and brother, Eugene (Arlene) Tuma, New Mexico.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Charles, husband, Victor, sisters, Rita Tuma, Mary Bauknecht, Lorraine Schneider, Marg Koplinski and Janet Bowen and brothers, Harry, Charles, Robert, Alloysious, James and George Tuma.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the St. Leonard Catholic Church, Laona. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be held again on Wednesday, September 5 from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Cerkas officiating. Interment will be in the Laona Cemetery. Weber-Hill Funeral Home, Crandon is assisting the family. Online condolences at
