Ellen Sconzert

Oconto - Ellen Marie Sconzert, 77, passed away as she wished, in her home in Oconto surrounded by the love and care of her children on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Ellen was born on May 6, 1941 in Oconto to the late Hugh Helmer and Marie (Clausen) Lade. She married Robert Sconzert on March 19, 1960 in Green Bay. Ellen started her long career in healthcare at the age of sixteen at Oconto Memorial Hospital. She also worked at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, and provided loving care for many years at the Riverside Nursing Home in Oconto. Bob and Ellen also owned and operated Our Place Bar for many years. Ellen loved her family and friends dearly and she cherished their many visits over these last weeks. Ellen loved to read, play solitaire and she never missed completing the daily crossword in pen. Watching Jeopardy, and Brewers baseball were among her favorite pastimes, as was following the Packers and Badgers. In her younger years, Ellen was a member of Oconto Golf Club's Ladies League in the summer, and in the winter she bowled two nights a week - with the ladies on Thursdays and Sunday night couples league with Bob. Ellen enjoyed cooking and baking and much like her mother Marie, Ellen loved to feed people. Her graciousness, quick wit and kindness will be remembered by many. Following in the footsteps of her great grandparents who emigrated from Denmark and helped to establish the Danish Lutheran Church in the region, Ellen was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church - Emmanuel Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran and First American Lutheran Church.

Ellen is survived by her children, Linda (John) Norton, Welches, OR; William "Buff" Sconzert, Oconto; Michael "Red" (Kerry) Sconzert; Abrams; granddaughter Renee Hendricks; brother David (Gloria) Helmer, Two Rivers; sister Donna Lubus, Oconto; brothers-in-law Michael Barribeau, Green Bay; Bernie (Laurie) Barribeau, Oshkosh; Cliff Allen, Abrams; sisters-in-law Carol Sconzert, Kenosha; Jane Sconzert, Oconto; aunt Alice LaViolette, Silver Lake and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
