Thome, Gordon "Gordy" R.

Gordon "Gordy" R. Thome, age 78, of New Holstein passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home.

He was born July 14, 193,4 in Mt. Calvary to the late Dennis & Caroline (Dietzen) Thome.

Gordy attended Holy Cross Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in Fond du Lac in 1952. He served in the Army from February 12, 1954-February 11, 1956.

On May 18, 1957 he married Rosemarie Meyer at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in New Holstein. They celebrated 55 years of marriage in 2012.

He was the Maintenance Foreman & an Electrician at Kohler Co. Engine Division for 42 years.

Gordy was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where served on parish council, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus in Kiel, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He participated in the Big Brothers of Calumet County where he was honored as Big Brother of the year in 1975. Gordy was also a Charter Member of the New Holstein Lions Club where he held several offices both on the local & state level. He was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2012.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie "Rosie"; his three children, Kris (Lee) Gilgenbach of Fond du Lac "Johnsburg", Cindy (Brian) Veara of Green Bay, Eric (Kathy) Thome of Franklin; five grandchildren, Erin Veara (fiance', Kyle Johnson), Bradley Veara, Alissa, Ashlyn, and Abrielle Thome; two sisters, Mary Jean Beyer & Doris Duwell both of Mt. Calvary; brother, Dennis (Joanne) Thome of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Paul) Buechel of Brookfield, Betty Thome of Appleton; brother-in-law, George (Jayne) Meyer of Madison; he is further survived by nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Bud & Rose Meyer; two brothers, Earl & Alois "Dickie" Thome; sister, Marion Cotter; brothers-in-law, Lyle Duzinske, Jack Cotter, Laverne Beyer, Eugene Duwell; sisters-in-law, Betty Duzinske & Marcella Thome; closest canine buddy Muffin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 1724 Madison Street in New Holstein. Rev. Harold Berryman officiating and Parish Director, Joe Zenk assisting. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the Sippel Funeral Home 2618 Altona Ave. New Holstein on Friday, December 21, 2012, from 4-7:30 PM and Saturday morning at the Sippel Funeral Home from 9-10:30 AM when brief rites will be held.

A Prayer Service will be held at the Sippel Funeral Home Friday evening at 7:30 PM.

A Memorial Fund will be established in his name for the St. Vincent DePaul Society and The Wisconsin Lions Camp.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Cyndi and all the wonderful caregivers from ResCare and the caregivers from Calumet Medical Center, St. Elizabeth Hospital, St. Agnes Hospital, Villa Lorretto Nursing Home, and the New Holstein First Responder.
