John Dillon

John F. Dillon, 85, Green Bay, died Saturday, December 13, 2014, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 25, 1929, to Fredrick and Hazel (Mann) Dillon.

John grew up on Washington Island and attended grade school there. Later he graduated from Central Catholic High School, class of 1947, in Green Bay. He married Jean Mary Walsh on October 28, 1950, at Annunciation Catholic Church. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 24 years. During that time he served on the U.S.S. Ranger, air craft carrier and was deployed to Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Navy he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1991. John fulfilled the dream of his life by building a cottage on Washington Island, where he enjoyed times together with friends and family. John was a member of the Baylanders Barber Shop Chorus. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5382, and was a 3rd Degree Past Grand Knight and a member of the 4th Degree Assembly. John was also an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, a member of St. Jude Parish, and the Shamrock Club.

John is survived by his wife, Jean; his children, Kathy (Bob) Decker, Mike (Michelle) Dillon, Pat (Barb) Dillon; a son-in-law, Bill Dornaus; grandchildren, Kevin (Melissa) Decker, John (Renee) Decker, Mathew Decker, Hannah Dillon, Molly Dillon, Nate Dillon, Sean (and special friend Polina) Dillon; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Genevieve, Evelyn, Austin; brother, George (Susan) Dillon, Jim Dillon; brother-in-law, Donald (Carolyn) Walsh, Paul (Sandy) Walsh; sister-in-law, Marilyn Colburn; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

John is preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanne Ann Dornaus; a grandson, Rodger Lee Dillon; and his parents, Fredrick and Hazel Dillon.

Friends may call at St. Jude Catholic Church at 1420 Division St, Green Bay, from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with Rev.
