Joseph "Joe" B. Geohegan

Green Bay - Joseph "Joe" B. Geohegan, 103, died Friday April 16, 2021. He was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Chicago, to Joseph P. and Josephine C. (Baeb) Geohegan, the eldest son of their seven children.

He graduated from West High School in 1936. After graduation he attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison and then entered the United States Army Air Corps, serving in the Fourth Air Force during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Mary Ruth (Bader) Gronemeyer in Green Bay and together they raised six children. During his 36-year career with Phillips Petroleum Company and Phillips Pipeline Company, he initiated and managed terminal operations in Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and Bettendorf, Iowa. He was an originator and charter member of the Propeller Club, an organization serving the Port and Shipping Industry, serving in several club official capacities in both Fort Lauderdale and Bettendorf. Together with two other future members, he established, named and organized the Port Everglades Oil & Related Industries Association (PEORIA), an organization established to assist the oil industry with pollution issues. Joe also was instrumental in establishing and participating in Florida State oil pollution groups headed by the Florida Governor's office, the Port Everglades Emergency Committee, the Port Everglades Spillage Control Committee and the Bi-State Metropolitan Oil Control Coordination Committee.

He was a long-time member of the Retired Men's Club, St. Agnes Parish, and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his sister, Jeanette Guerts of Green Bay; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Geohegan, Lacombe, LA; five daughters: Mary Lynn Chapman, Gainesville, GA.; Judy Vaughn, Shea and Joe Graffo, Ann Geohegan and son-in-law, Ron Grasse, all of Colorado Springs, CO; Ellen McHaley and son-in-law, Todd Cromett, Eugene, OR; and a son, Terry Geohegan, Hollywood, FL; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; two sons-in-law, Doug Chapman and Rick Vaughn; three brothers, Jan, Albert and Paul Geohegan; and two sisters, Nora Hickey and Lois Hickey.
