Virginia Marie (Flaherty) Riner Obituary
Virginia Marie (Flaherty) Riner

Green Bay - Virginia Marie (Flaherty) Riner, 91, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, May 25, 2018 following a brief illness. She was born on July 21, 1926, to Harriet and David Flaherty and was a lifelong resident of Green Bay.

Virginia graduated from Green Bay West High School, Class of 1945 and later married Billie "Red" Riner on March 12, 1948. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1979.

She was an avid member of N.E.W. Beagle Club for many years and continued trialing dogs with her youngest son, Jim, as well as helping in the kitchen to provide excellent food on trial days.

Virginia was a long-standing member of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron and Star Point of Ruth for many years. She continued working at the Masonic Temple until retiring at the "young age" of 87. Virginia was also a member of St. Agnes Parish.

She loved gardening and filled her yard with flowers. Pink was her color of choice. Being an avid Packer fan, Virginia rarely missed a game, and had an abundance of Packer sweatshirts and memorabilia. She also loved spending time with family and always made Christmas a special holiday for everyone. Santa never disappointed and we never got too old for gifts from Mom.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Cindy Riner and Kubs, Tim Riner, Steve Riner and Gene, Jim and Sally Riner; and by granddaughters, Kenna and Kelsey Riner who always had hugs for Grandma. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law, Shirley Craig and Patty Chilberg; brother-in-law, Larry Riner (Sharon); many nieces and nephews; adopted granddaughter, Suzette (Scott) Burger; special family friend, Kathy O'Malley; and her beloved dog, Huey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie; parents, David and Harriet Flaherty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Donald Jorgensen, Barbara and Gordon Liesch; in-laws, Hazle and Lloyd Riner; and brother-in-law, Wayne Chilberg.

The family will greet family and friends at Green Bay Botanical Garden, Saturday, June 16, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. with a Blessing to follow. Blaney Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Virginia's name.

The family would like to thank Sherri, Krystal, Sabine and Roberta for their special love and caring for Mom so she could remain at home. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

She lived, laughed and loved. We will always miss you Mom - Love ya!
