B. Lyda Obituary

B. Bruce Lyda

Greenville

B. Bruce Lyda, age 78, of Greenville passed into Heaven on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Born in Fountain Inn, S.C., Bruce was the son of the late Beaty and Annie Mae Lyda (Gaines). He was a graduate of Fountain Inn High School, elected as Best Dressed, an outstanding baseball player and lettered in all sports, but his love for golf surpassed all others.

After a successful 20 year career in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, he continued his education at Greenville Tech in Marketing and Food Science. He was the manager of a local restaurant for 10 years, Property Manager for 10 years and a principal in Lyda's Interiors. He was a member of the VFW, a KCBS master BBQ judge and a lifelong member of the International Food Service Executive Association who ran the golf tournament for several years. Bruce was also a volunteer for many downtown events. He loved gardening and working in his yard.

He always said his greatest achievement in life was his children. He is survived by his wife Mary Brown Lyda, his sons Barry and wife Debbie, Jeff and wife Nita, both of Simpsonville, S.C., Andy and wife Ashley of Charleston, S.C., daughter Kim Givens of Simpsonville, and loving step-daughter Missy Hunter and husband Bobby of Easley. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Lee Lyda.

Siblings Carole Meyer and Beryl Rumfelt of Waterloo, S.C. Susan Lyda of Inman, S.C., step-brother Rev. Ted Gaines of Greenville and step-sister Sarah Felwock, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a very special friend Stan Gibson of Greenville.

Receiving of friends will be at Thomas McAfee, Northwest from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Service will be conducted by Rev. Ted Gaines at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The committal will be at Robinson Memorial Gardens, Powdersville Road in Easley. The family will be at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Healthcare Hospice, 155 Deacon Tiller Court, Duncan, S.C. 29334, or a charity of your choice.

Mary, Missy, and Family,

I know that has to be an extremely hard time for your family. I have very fond memories of Bruce when I was a young kid. He was such a kind man with a great sense of humor. Prayers going up for all of you grieving this tremendous loss.

Dear Lyda Family, Mary, Barry, Jeff, Andy, Kim, Carole, Beryl, Susan, and step brother and sister. Barbara and I were very saddened to learn that our family member, and friend Bruce had been taken from this world, but happy that he is now in a better world. We all grew up on the Mill Village in Fountain Inn. We all shared good times and bad times, we all loved and cared for each other. Bruce always had a smile and a warm greeting every time he saw you. May God make smooth the path before each of you in the trying time ahead. God Bless and watch over you. RIP my friend. You now have a special Tee Time in Heaven.

Carole,Beryl, Susan, You probably do not remember me, but my first husband was pastor or the fountain Inn Wesleyan when you were very young; and I remember you very well. You have my sympathy at the death of Bruce . I had five brothers and only one left. I know it is not easy to give them up; but we will soon all be together again. I will keep you in my prayers.
