José Mathieu Charles Ghislain Bragard
Greenville
José Mathieu Charles Ghislain Bragard, 90, of Greenville, died Friday, September 20, 2013. Born in Verviers, province of de Liège, Belgium, he was a son of the late Joseph Guillaume Bragard and Marie Alice Jacqueline Simon. After returning from forced labor captivity in Germany during WWII, José was employed as a highly skilled craftsman by the DeSpa Card Clothing Corporation of Verviers. José became works manager of American Eureka, the DeSpa Carding Tops installation facility on McBee Ave. José's skills, dedication, and personality won him many customers and a lifetime friends, although American Eureka ultimately succumbed to intense U.S. and international competition. During an ensuing period, José assisted Benjamin Booth Company in improving special carding rollers supplied to Crosrol Carding Specialists of Greenville, prior to becoming an associate and manager at Crosrol.
José was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for over 50 years.
He is survived by Danielle Daelman, of Spa Belgium, wife of the deceased son of José's also deceased brother, Armand; her daughter, Isabelle Bragard; and her children, Tristan et Trisha Bragard.

Family - we all have lost a fine and wonderful friend. Although of Belgium birth, he was an extraordinary "Southern Gentleman" in nature. My husband worked with him years ago and through him, we became good friends. We thank you for the good times and your friendship Jose.....You will be missed !!

Dear Jose,
Our family was fortunate to meet you when we moved to Greenville in 1996. Not only did this guarantee us front pew seating at Mass but a sincere friend who was able to share in many of our joys and family events. As your health started to decline you entrusted us with care of your affairs which with the help of several of your long term friends we were able to accomplish. We witnessed your long decline and were fortunate to be with you in your last hours. During these difficult years you served as a witness to the sanctity of all life, even when diminished by old age and disease.
Rest in peace Jose, we miss you and will pray our Lord to receive you in His Paradise.
