Billy Lake Hendricks, age 81, of North Charleston, SC, peacefully passed Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Ninety Six, SC on October 23, 1932, to the late Butler M. Hendricks and Bertha Davis Hendricks. "Daddy Bill", as the family patriarch, led by example with his positive encouragement and Christian faith. He also enjoyed his dogs, woodworking, fishing, and drinking coffee.

He served his country in the United States Air Force and retired as a well decorated Master Sergeant and Fire Chief with 21 years of service including two wars: Vietnam and Korea. He served as the Fire Chief in three South Carolina Districts: Gantt, Hanahan, and North Charleston. He was a member of the Fire Chiefs Association and was a past President and life member of the Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs. He was also a past President of the South Carolina Fire Chiefs, and the Southeastern Division to the International Fire Chiefs. He was an instrumental pioneer of many training programs in the South Carolina Fire Academy. After retiring as Fire Chief, he then served as the North Charleston District Commissioner of Public Works. He was a role model to many, a faithful follower of Christ, and a member of Deer Park Baptist Church for 34 years.

He is predeceased by Roy B. Hendricks, Ralph L. Hendricks and Rosa Lee Hendricks Anderson. He is survived by his loving bride of 41 years, Betsy Smith Hendricks of North Charleston, SC; and will be missed by his loving children, son: Gary C. Brown (Pam) of Folly Beach, SC; daughter: Deborah B. Mims (Larry) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren: Kelly Mangum (Michael) of Greenville, SC, Christopher Mims (Lisa, MD) of Charleston, SC, Nathan Mims of Greenville, SC, Cory and Eric Brown of Folly Beach, SC; great grandchildren: John Lake Mangum of Greenville, SC, and Caleb Mims of Charleston, SC.

The relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services to be held 10:00 AM Friday, August 1 , 2014 at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Graveside Service with Military Honors will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 1 Pine Knoll Drive Greenville, SC, 29606 at 4 o'clock PM on Friday August 1, 2014.
