Clark Selwyn Collins, M.D.

Greenville

Clark Selwyn Collins, M.D., 89, formerly of 10 LaVista Court, Greenville, an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist in Greenville for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1997, died at The Woodlands at Furman on February 15, 2015, surrounded by his loving daughters.

Born in Washington, D.C. on November 27, 1925, he was the only child of the late Selwyn Dewitt and Angie Jean Spicer Collins.

He graduated from Columbia University and The Columbia College of Physicians and surgeons and interned at The University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. He served as a medical officer in the U.S. Navy for two years. He did a residency in ear, nose and throat at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston before coming to Greenville to start his private practice in 1959. He was loved by his staff at his office as well as the nurses that assisted in his surgeries at St. Francis Hospital.

Dr. Clark was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, The Poinsett Club, The American Medical Association, The South Carolina Medical Association, The Southern Medical Association, the North and South Carolina Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and a member of the Association of Surgeons of the Southern Railway System and loved to travel by train.

He was a historian, world traveler that spoke four languages, and an animal lover. His favorite vacation spot was Sea Island, GA.

Surviving are his former wife, Delores Edwards Collins; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann C. Jones and Monroe D. Jones and Emily C. Rackley and James Tony Rackley; and grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Jones and Austin Taylor Rackley.

He was predeceased by a son, Brian Clark Collins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held at Christ Church Episcopal in Markley Chapel on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Remembrance Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Concerned Citizens for Animals, 3627 Fork Shoals Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
