Ethel Morgan Obituary

Ethel Elizabeth Morgan of 22 Warner St., Greenville died Friday, June 22, 2007 at her home.

Born in Central, May 16, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Frank Burt and Ethel Robinson Morgan. Elizabeth was a graduate of Greenville High School and Furman University and studied at the Teachers' College at Columbia University in New York. She was an educator in the Greenville County School System and taught at both Stone School and Augusta Circle, where the library was named in her honor. She was a long-time member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church and was a member of and pianist for the Robert Morris Sunday School Class.

She was a member of the D.A.R. Crescent Community Club, the Crescent Music Club, the Greenville Woman's Club, the Greenville Garden Club, and the Lake Junaluska Assembly.

Elizabeth had a continuing affection for her former students. She was extremely thoughtful and loved people, music, her church, and her mountain home "Little Jewel" at Lake Junaluska. She dearly loved her sister, Martha Frances and they enjoyed life together. She was proud of the Morgan Meditation Garden at Furman University, which she and her sister established in memory of their parents.

The family would like to thank the dedicated friends and neighbors who loved, learned from and cared for Elizabeth through all the many years. We thank Tracy Parsons for her compassion and devotion and Elizabeth's caregivers for their wonderful and loving concern. A special appreciation is felt for long-time caregivers Natasha Griffin and Jackie Williams, who truly gave their hearts to Elizabeth. What a blessing they all have been.

She is survived by three cousins, Mary Frances Morgan of Greenville, Kathleen Morgan Donnelly and husband Edmund of Hilton Head, and Mary Eugenia Dudley Stone and husband Cornwell of Chester and her dear friend, Bett White of Greenville.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jerry Temple and Rev. Grover Putnam officiating. Visitation will be held before the service from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the church parlor. Burial will be at Springwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Morgan Meditation Garden at Furman University, c/o Betsy Moseley, 3300 Poinsett Hwy., Greenville, SC 29613; Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, PO Box 1988, Greenville, SC 29602; or to the charity of one's choice.
