Joseph E. "Gene" Wyatt, age 60, of Jefferson, Ga., died April 2, 2004, of cardiac arrest.
A native of Rome, Ga., he was the son of A. Knox Wyatt and Kathryn Henley Wyatt. He attended Darlington School and graduated from Deveroux School in Bryn Mawr, Pa. He attained his Associates Degree from Abraham Baldwin College. He moved to Jackson County in the mid-1970's, where he was in the land management business. An avid fisherman and traveler, he would often go to Alaska for salmon or to South America for bass, and had just returned from a trip to Antarctica.
He is survived by his stepmother, Carol Waugh Wyatt, of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; brothers, Alex K. Wyatt Jr., of Alpharetta, Ga., and David H. Wyatt, of Athens, Ga.; a sister, Kay W. Cheves, of Greenville; and six nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Hills in Rome, Ga., at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Darlington School, 1014 Cave Springs Road, Rome, GA 30161.
