Greenville - Maxine M. "Max" Trexler, 83, wife of John Edward Trexler, died Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

Born in Taylorsville, NC, Max graduated Lenoir-Rhyne University in 1955 and taught second grade classes in Hickory and Greensboro. She taught children with special needs. Max was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She served on the Board of Cleveland Street YMCA, and The Greenville Little Theater. She loved her tennis friends and Coach Rob Thompson of Greenville Country Club. She loved all sports and playing bridge. She was a strong supporter of NC State Athletics. She was also a member of Gower Garden Club.

Max had a long and courageous battle with cancer. The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the staff at Greenville Prosthetic Lab, the Cancer Institute at GHS, and the care she received at NHC Mauldin.

In addition to her husband she is survived by a son, Mark Trexler and his wife Jane; two granddaughters, Haley Cabaniss and her husband Harry, and Whitney Trexler; and a great-grandson, Will Cabaniss; and a brother, Phil Mays and his wife Brenda of Smith Mountain Lake, VA.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a son, James David Trexler, and a sister, Joann Hedrick.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in the Harper Chapel. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 220 W. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601; The Cancer Institute at GHS, 701 Grove Rd., Greenville, SC 29605; or the YMCA, 721 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29605.
