Roy Wayne Chatman


Roy Wayne Chatman, 72, of 8 Harvest Lane, died Tuesday, February 19, 2013.

Born in Johnson City, TN on August 14, 1940, he was the son of the late James Frank and Mary Kate Carder Chatman.

Roy attended Science Hill High School and the University of South Carolina, where he played football under Coaches Warren Giese and Marvin Bass. After earning his B.S. degree in Business Administration at the University of South Carolina, Roy joined Kraft Foods, where he spent 38 years of his career before retiring in 2008. He also served for six years as a reservist in the United States Army.

In addition to the countless friendships he treasured during his work career, he enjoyed lifelong friendships with fellow college classmates and teammates, particularly the "Rambling Roosters." He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

His friends and family will remember him as a kind-hearted and loyal man with an enduring spirit and sense of humor.

Surviving, are his loving wife of 46 years, Mary Michael Chatman; son, James Frank Chatman, of Charlotte, NC; and daughter, Susan Chatman Anderson and husband Landon, of New Orleans, LA.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in Sacred Heart Hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon at the church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School, 309 Gower Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or St. Francis Foundation, 1 St. Francis Drive, Greenville, SC 29601.
