Doris S. Wilson


Doris S. Wilson, widow of Sidney Marshall Wilson, passed peacefully March 18, 2014 at Woodlands Skilled Nursing Center in her 100th year. She was born in Greenville to the late Charles Daniel and Ida Roberts Speegle. She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Mrs. Wilson was a kind and giving woman, devoted to her family, friends and community. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Greenville. She taught Sunday School for 55 years, as well as serving as a deacon, President of WMU, and member of the wedding committee. She was active in her Circle, and was a member of the Seminar Sunday School Class. Doris taught Vacation Bible School well into her eighties. She was a member of the Magnolia Garden Club, Greenville Country Club, and the Poinsett Club. Doris served on the boards of the Sara Gossett Home, Greenville Rehabilitation Facility, Greenville YWCA, and was a trustee of Furman University. Whatever needed to be done, Doris Wilson did it.

Surviving are a grandson, Douglas Marshall Wilson, Jr. and his mother, Cathy S. Wilson. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas Marshall Wilson, Sr. and two daughters, Betty Wilson and Linda Craig Wilson, as well as her grandson, Sid Wilson.

Funeral will be held Thursday, March 20, 2014 in the Carpenter Chapel at First Baptist Greenville at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive friends prior to the service at 10:30. A private burial service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
