Before she and her family moved to Greenville in 1963, she lived in Charlotte, N.C. and was an active member of Big Spring United Methodist Church.

Irene's husband of 63 years preceded her in death in 2006, but she is survived by her brother Lloyd Cato and his wife, Christine; two daughters, Pam Odom and husband James, of Greenville, and Tonda Riley and husband Ed, of Columbia, S.C.; son, Stan McDaniel, Jr. and wife Claudia, of Rock Hill; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight step-great grandchildren; and one step-great-great child. Irene also served as a role model for nieces, nephews, and friends of her children.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to those who helped care for Irene: the staffs of Interim Hospice, Foothills Rehab, St. Francis Hospital, and Regency Hospital.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 21, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Laurens Road United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
