Bruce Barton Ballenger, 87, husband of Alice Evans Ballenger, died Sunday, August 31, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late John Perry and Carrie Barton Ballenger.

Mr. Ballenger attended Greenville Senior High School and Strong Study of Military Science while Stationed in North China. He also attended many schools that were job related.

He was a World War II Veteran and was Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Okinawa Invasion and twice wounded at Sugar Loaf Hill. He was awarded nine medals.

He was associated with Harper Brothers, Inc. for 38 years and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Bible Class. He was a member of a large family and a proud grandfather.

Surviving, in addition to his one love of 68 years, are son, Dave Ballenger and wife, Wendy, of Greenville; granddaughter, Hudson M. Ballenger; grandson, Noah C. Ballenger, both of Spartanburg; and sister, Dulcie C. Harget.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Vera R. Addis and Ruby M. Mullinix; and two brothers, Traxler O. Ballenger and Harold M. Ballenger.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Downtown Chapel. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
