Donny Jacobs

Greenville

Donald Paul Jacobs, RN, BSN, CCRN-CSC-CMC, 27, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, April 3, 2012 at his home in Mt. Juliet, TN.

Donny was a critical care nurse at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN working in the Cardio-Vascular Intensive Care Unit. He was scheduled to graduate in August with a Master of Science degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program with an Intensivist Care Focus.

Donny was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1985 and his love of science was evident at an early age. His love of travel took him many places. He traveled to Mexico on two mission trips while a student at Bob Jones Academy, during college he spent two months working at a clinic in Kenya, he vacationed in Alaska and after graduating with a BSN from Bob Jones University, Donny spent one year at the Shanghi Institute of Health Sciences in China teaching nursing students.

Donny's love of his Savior manifested itself in service to Him and in service to others. God used Donny's love of science and his love of people as he worked in the nursing profession. All who knew Donny witnessed a young man who used his gifts and love of science, travel, education, and his Savior in service to others.

He is survived by his loving family, his parents, Don and Tammie Jacobs; his sister, Catherine Jacobs; his brother, Allen Jacobs; nephews, Michael and Dillon Jacobs, all of Greenville; maternal grandmother, Peggy Thorsell of Pittsburg, TX; paternal grandparents, Don and Elaine Jacobs of Lincoln Park, MI; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A service to celebrate Donny's life will be 2pm Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Morningside Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Miller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. The burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bob Jones University, 1700 Wade Hampton Blvd., Greenville, SC 29614-0001. Please notate the "Nursing Division" on the memo line.

Online condolences may be sent to www.mackeymortuary.com The Mackey Mortuary.

Donny was a joy of a person. Not only was he a serious student and hard working, but he had a silly bone that endeared him to me. I love just the right combination of serious and silly. I still miss him and pray for you Tammy and Donald. I suppose one mark of a life well lived is leaving a vacuum like he has in his home going. Love and prayers, Robin.

A smile comes to my face when I think of Donny, but tears burn my eyes to think of him being gone. You dear ones are in my prayers. I am as near as the nursing building or a phone call if I can do anything or if you just need a fellow mama's heart to talk to. Love in Christ,

I just wanted to tell Donny's family that, though I never got to know Donny very well while we were both students a BJU, I remember his smiling, cheerful face while I worked at the Dining Common. We never really worked together, but he always put a smile on the faces of everyone in the dish-pit when he walked through or helped us out during a crazy shift. Can't wait to get to know him better when we join him in heaven! :)

A lot of us wish we could be there to celebrate the life that Don had here with us in CVICU at Vanderbilt. The few that are there represent only a minor fraction of lives Don touched here at work. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was a classmate of Don's at Vanderbilt. Though I only knew him a short time, I will never forget his intelligence and his kindness. Don's presence is greatly missed at Vanderbilt. August 5th won't seem quite right without Don to walk across that stage with us.

Dear Jacobs Family,
Though Donny and I had lost contact in the last few years, his life enriched mine immeasurably during high school and college, and I will miss him.

We are praying for you, knowing the pain of losing a loved one whose time on earth seemed shorter than we thought it should have been.

Love,

To the Jacobs Family,
I am very sorry for your loss and will remember to say a prayer for your family. Unfortunately I never had the pleasure of being very close to Donny even though we graduated together however I do recall his love for the Lord, kindness to others, and his excellent work ethics from classes that he undoubtedly made the most of his life.

Please know that Don was loved by so many people; he was a brilliant, kind and caring young man. I worked with him in the CVICU, and I was a friend and one of his faculty in the NP program. He was an excellent nurse, a great student and I'm certain he would have been a fantastic NP. He had heart and a caring soul - something that cannot be taught.

May God give you all peace and strength during this time. Don will be remembered and thought of so fondly by so many.

I was in the intensivist program with Don until my own health problems caused me to defer. While I was in the hospital he came on breaks at night to see me. Highlight of 11pm in the hospital.

In addition, He will forever be known to me as a cardiac genius as I hated Cv.. He coached me through a few tests. Your son, family member and friend was a very thoughtful, smart, humble and kind man.. Such a rare combination
