George N. (Skip) Garrett

George Nelson Garrett (Skip), 79, of Greenville, SC, died after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's disease and went home to celebrate Easter with his Savior on March 30, 2013.

Born on June 7, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa, Skip was a son of the late Dorn and Carol Murdock Garrett. He was married on August 29, 1959 in New Sharon, Iowa to Delores Jean Garrett (Dee).

Following a private committal service, a memorial service will be held at 3 pm Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Heritage Bible Church conducted by Rev. Dan Brooks and Rev. Robbie Garrett. Visitation will be held at the Church following the service.

Surviving beside Delores, his wife of 53 years, are two daughters and their families, Jill Garrett Reynolds and husband Craig; Lori Jean Garrett Brown and husband Jeff; grandchildren, Mary Rachel Reynolds Cramer (husband Bo), Kenneth Garrett Reynolds and Michael Tyler Brown; siblings, Bob Garrett of Anderson, SC, Virginia Peterson of Salem, Oregon, Marion Keener of Anderson, SC and Mike Garrett of Salem, Oregon.

Skip graduated from Hudson High School in Hudson, Iowa and went to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps, served in the Korean War and was stationed in the Philippines. During that time he served on the security detail of US Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. Following his service in the Marines, he transitioned to the US Army Reserves and retired as a Master Sergeant for a total of 27 years of service for his country.

During his civilian career, he was employed in retail, home building, and Cycle 6 / Rapac recycling.

Skip was a member of Heritage Bible Church in Greer, SC.
