Gerald "Jerry" Elliott Sumner, age 73, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Fellowship Health and Rehab.

Born in Greenville, SC on October 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Ira Wright Sumner and the late Lucille Oeland Sumner. He was a graduate of Greenville High School and a 1969 graduate of the University of South Carolina. He served his country in the United States National Guard. Jerry worked in advertisement for many years, having owned Sumner signs for more than 15 years. He was a member of Greenville Country Club and was an avid tennis player and golfer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marcie Thompson Sumner; children, Michael Sumer, and Edie Brown and her husband Jimmy, all of Anderson ,SC; a brother, Dr. Lynn Sumner, of Memphis, TN; and two grandchildren, Troy and Haley Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Sumner; and two sisters, Sissy Ehlen, and Aileen Cleary.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 #L Clemson Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29625.
