John Bainbridge Ferguson, Jr., passed away on July 10, 2016 at McCall Hospice House.

His memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Fourth Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Graham Fellowship Hall. A private interment will take place in the church memorial garden prior to the service.

John was born on January 31, 1936 in Florence, AL. He was the son of the late John Bainbridge Ferguson, Sr. and Jackie White Ferguson. He graduated from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga, TN and Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, TN, where he was a member of the golf team. John was named to All State Golf Team for three years and was the Tennessee Intercollegiate champion for two years. He enjoyed a distinguished golfing career for many years and participated in numerous amateur events. John was a former Greenville County champion, Georgia Open champion, and Senior Azalea champion. He was a member of Green Valley Country Club, Poinsett Club and Senior Golfers of South Carolina. John was a dedicated member of Fourth Presbyterian Church.

John married his wife of fifty years, Helen Mott Ferguson on April 16, 1966 at the First Methodist Church in Cookeville, TN. They moved to Greenville, SC, where John worked in the food service industry. He was the former owner and manager of Western Sizzlin Steak House in Easley, SC.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by a daughter, Julie Ferguson of Granville, TN, and sisters, Mary Lynn Baggett of Tuscaloosa, AL and Nancy Shell of Sale Creek, TN. He is also survived by two nephews, Mark Baggett and wife Kim and Paul Baggett and wife Lori.

John was preceded in death by his parents and by an infant sister, Sue Ellen Ferguson.

The family would to express deep gratitude for the loving care and support given by the staff at NHC Greenville and McCall Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 703 E. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 29601 or McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
