Hyland, Alice
Alice Loughran Hyland a Greenwich native and lifelong resident, passed away peacefully with her husband, children and spouses,on October 7th at her side. Born January 27, 1932 to Joseph and Ann Loughran, immigrants from County Tyrone, Ireland. Alice graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1950 and from NY Hospital as a radiology technician. She was married at St. Mary's Church in 1953 to George. For some 30 years Alice worked as an x- ray technician at Greenwich Radiology Group. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who exhibited indefatigable energy in serving her family, employer and in her volunteer work. She placed her family above all things earthly and was always a source of love, strength, solace and wise counsel. Alice was a champion of the poor and upon retirement was a leading volunteer at St. Mary's where she devoted herself to the church's Social Concern Program and serving the Pacific House Shelter for the Homeless in Stamford, CT. Alice is survived by George, her loving husband of 60 years, her beloved children Mark (Susan), Ann (Bill) Gallagher, Michael (Jacquie), her brother James (Mary) Loughren, her grandchildren Megan, Kevin, Martin, Mary, Caroline and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Joseph. Family and friends are invited to visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home on Thursday, October 10, 2013 from 5~9 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church. Internment will follow the Mass in Putman Cemetery in Greenwich. In lieu of flowers Donations to St. Mary's Social Concern Program, Greenwich Avenue ,Greenwich, CT 06830 or Pacific House Shelter for the Homeless, 597 Pacific Street, Stamford, CT 06902 would be appreciated.
