Francesco Zarra
January 29, 1931 - September 12, 2017 Francesco Zarra, of Greenwich, passed away Tuesday September 12. He was 86. Born on a family farm in Teora Avellino, Italy, January 29, 1931 to Gaetano and Anna. Francesco served in the army and in 1955 married Gelsomina, then immigrated to the United States with his wife and daughter in 1962. He settled in Greenwich and after working in several trades he founded his business, F. Zarra- Greenwich Flooring in 1969. He was hardworking and loved to help others. His idea of relaxation was building houses along with the help of his fellow tradesmen. When he wasn't working, you could find him in his vegetable garden, playing bocce, wine-making, or simply sharing a meal with family and friends. Along with his wife Gelsomina, Francesco leaves behind his loving children, Angie Pietrafeso (Charles), Anna DiStefano (Michael) and Gary Zarra (Dena); his cherished grandchildren Joseph, Michael, Jessica, Sammy, Alex, Caitlyn and Nicholas; as well as six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Elia Zarra (Carmine), Agostino (Angelina), Vicenza, Maria (Pietro) and Rose (Rocco). He was predeceased by his sister Antoinette. To honor his life, family and friends will gather Friday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich (203) 869-5968. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Roch Church, Greenwich. Entombment to follow at Putnam Cemetery, Greenwich.
