June Biedler Obituary

JUNE LEE BIEDLER, Ph.D. Distinguished Cell Biology Cancer Research Scientist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Member Emeritus. Recipient of the preeminent American Association for Cancer Research and Eli Lilly Company international G.H. A. Clewes Memorial Award "for revolutionizing the design and development of cancer therapeutic agents; her trail blazing work gave birth to the concept of utilizing combination therapies which is now a main stream approach to effective cancer treatment." Dr. Biedler was Program Chairman Cell Biology and Genetics, one of the four principal research programs of MSKCC; Professor, Cornell-Well Graduate School of Medical Sciences; Member of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Scientific Advisory Committee; The AACR Board of Directors; Associate Editor of the Journal CANCER RESEARCH ; and elected a Lifetime Memeber of the Society of In Vitro Biology. Dr. Biedler was a published author of an extensive number of peer reviewed treatises from 1950-2006. Gradutate of The Madeira School (1943) , Mclean, VA and Vassar College (1946-1947). She received the Doctorate degree in Cell Biology and Genetics from Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences (1959).Dr. Biedler was a resident of Greenwich for 52 years. Date Of death was April 16th 2012.
