LOUISE B. LANE
90, passed peacefully away on Sunday, March 2, 2008 in Grand Rapids, MI. Born in Mayville, WI, Louise earned a B Sc from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was an outstanding student, achieving membership in Mortar Board, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. In Madison she met her husband, Leslie C. Lane, Jr, a Tar Heel from Greensboro, NC. They married in 1941 and moved to Stamford, where Les began a 31-year career with American Cyanamid. Together they raised four children, Leslie "Lee", Rosemary "Posie", Patricia and Philip. Louise was a longtime Girl Scout leader and an active participant in AAUW, the League of Women Voters and various PTAs. An avid naturalist, she volunteered regularly at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center. Louise delighted in children of all ages and was mentor to many. She was a master bridge player, an inveterate bargain-hunter and garage-saler, and a fervent champion of the underdog. Louise and Les retired to her hometown of Mayville in 1973, where they lived until Les' health began to fail. In 1989 they settled in Lincoln, NE. Les passed away in Lincoln in 1997. Louise spent her final years in an eldercare community in Rockford, MI. She is survived by three children, Leslie (Judy) Lane of Lincoln, NE, Rosemary Anderson of Grand Rapids, MI, and Patricia Lane (David Grodsky), of Morris, NY; by six grandchildren, Gillian Anderson (Mark Griffiths) of London, England, Aaron Anderson of Stanford, CA, Zo' Anderson of New Orleans, LA, Nathan Lane (Sara Michael) of Minsk, Belarus, Zachary Lane of New York, NY, and Lorna (Simon) Corbyn of Northampton, England; and by five great-grandchildren, two brothers and many nieces and nephews. Her son, Philip, preceded her in death in 1971. A Mass of Christian Burial for Louise was held on Thursday, March 6th at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Rockford, MI.
