Anne Rorick Obituary
Anne Sherbondy Rorick, 77, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at The Hearth at Southbury after a long illness. She leaves her husband and artist, William C. Rorick and a younger brother, William R. Sherbondy of Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Anne was born on November 20, 1940.
Anne was a professional cellist during her lifetime, playing in the Greenwich Symphony for 43 years and more recently in the Norwalk Symphony. She taught cello privately in her home and other locations in Connecticut since 1970, when she taught public school music in the Westport public school system. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of well-known cellist and instructor Janos Starker. She received the B.M. and B.M.Ed. degrees in 1964, after which she taught in various locations, including Branding, Manitoba, and Canada.
In 1969 she entered the Northwestern University School of Music in Evanston, Illinois, where she studies with cellist Dudley Powers. She received her M.M. degree in 1970 and also met her husband William, who was working on his M.M. degree in Music History and Literature. The two dated by attending many Chicago Symphony orchestra concerts. They came to Connecticut in 1970 and were married in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1971 and spent 47 wonderful years of marriage. They particularly enjoyed their little Westie dog named Spunky.
Anne will be greatly missed, but donations can be made in her memory to the Greenwich Symphony or Norwalk Symphony orchestras. Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Anne's and my friendship blossomed at South Side High School in Fort Wayne, as we played in orchestra and small string ensembles, notably string quartet, all four years. I attended our class of '59 reunion last month and my thoughts kept turning to Anne and how much she would have enjoyed being there and as well, how much I would have enjoyed seeing her.

Dear Bill, I was about to address a birthday card to Anne, and wondering at her not acknowledging my recent birthday (she never forgot it), I did a Google search to find this. How saddened I am at this news. Anne was my lifelong friend from 8th grade on. When I followed you to the east coast, you and she included me in your Thanksgiving celebrations among other occasions. As a single then, I so appreciated these invitations and the real camaraderie we enjoyed.

She is Mrs. Rorick to me and taught me to play the cello and was my teacher for many years. She was a lovely person with an infectious laugh and endless patience and warmth. I think of her every time I look at my cello!

Bill - we were saddened to hear about Anne. The whole Wilcox clan sends our deepest sympathies. We loved Anne and know that she will be missed by so many. My mom, Cathy, sends her love and thoughts and prayers. I, especially, loved Anne for her kindness and patience teaching me cello but mostly in her kookiness and zest for life! She held a special place in my heart.
