John Hutchins Obituary

John Traver Hutchins, Jr.
John Traver Hutchins Jr., loving husband, father, son, and brother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at age 59 after a 12 year journey with multiple myeloma.
Traver was born on March 6th, 1961 in Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Hutchins Sr.
Survived by his mother Ann Hutchins, wife, Elizabeth Hutchins, children, Jack (17), Alley (16) and Davis (9), brothers Web Hutchins and Grant Hutchins and countless friends.
Traver attended The Blake School in Minneapolis, MN and the University of Minnesota. His entrepreneurial spirit took him to New York where he was successful in multiple company start-ups. Traver had a sharp business mind for new trends and was constantly bringing his new ideas to fruition.
Traver married the love of his life, Elizabeth Andrews, on June 22, 2002, at the Ausable Club in the Adirondacks.
Together they moved to Greenwich, CT to raise their children.
Traver loved all sports, whether playing or watching his Minnesota "home teams." Traver also had a passion for golf, was an excellent player, and treasured the rounds played with his family and friends.
Traver was known for his quick wit, eternal optimism and his kind and compassionate spirit. Traver was one of the good guys and he will be missed greatly. He cultivated countless friendships wherever he went. If you sat on a flight next to Traver, you got off the plane with a new friend.
Traver felt a call to give back and mentored many younger business entrepreneurs. He started a family tradition of delivering food to Neighbor to Neighbor. After his diagnosis, Traver spent much time and energy raising funds and awareness for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. He also made a series of videos for other patients, explaining the path of the disease and using his experience to guide others.
But when asked, Traver would say his greatest success was his wonderful family, Elizabeth, Jack, Alley, Davis and Coco.
A true family man.
A private family service will be held at Christ Church Greenwich at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5th. Friends are invited to join through a link that will be posted on the church's website.
Donations preferred to Neighbor to Neighbor and The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Dear Elizabeth and family,
I'm so very sorry to have heard of Traver's passing. He was such a nice guy, and neighbor. I will miss bumping into him when walking our dogs in the Pinetum. I will miss our talks about art and his life growing up in the midwest (something we had in common). He was a creative, happy man and I always felt happy in his presence. My heart goes out to you all. Prayers too.

Traver’s soft gift of immediate person to person connection and genuine interest was gifted to me in our first and only meeting. His teachings’ absorption was also palpably felt in chats with Alley and Jack.

I am so sad to know that my friend John Traver Hutchins, the eldest son of my dear friend Ann Hutchins, had died at such an early age, that words are not enough. I will just say that i will always remember Traver as a very fine, courteous, smart, decent and wonderful human being, who was able to thrive succesfully and creatively in the area of business, never forgetting the people he loved, and never forgetting the needy! I will remember him as the mayor advisor of his younger brothers, and as an special love of his mother Ann! May God have an special place for him in his infinite love! Good Bye Traver!

What an amazing human being Traver Hutchins was. He was a dear old friend from Mpls and a fixture in my life in NY in the 90's. I loved his wit, warmth and his often brutal honestly, always delivered with a smile. He was one in a billion. Sending my sincerest condolences to his family.

Traver was my boss at Remedy Media when I was editor of Remedy and Diabetes Focus magazines and he helped lead that company to the very forefront of the medical publishing industry. He was kind and supportive and I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to work with and for him. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I just want to send a text on what a great person Traver was. Sorry I can't be there Saturday. I will always cherish his stories and our trip we did last December visiting the Florida Cancer Infusion room centers promoting the product from Ft Myers to Gainesville and then back to Tampa. We never struggled for conversation. I am so so sorry, we need more people like Traver in this world! Dan Branch.

Dear Elizabeth,

I am so sorry to read about your husband. We don't know each other but I grew up in Greenwich and still read the paper. I lost my sweet brother in law, who was a few years older than your husband, this year from cancer. A cruel disease. I send you and your family so much love. My family and I have all of you in our prayers. Please let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
